Six stakes, plenty of setups
Six is the number that lets you pitch a full shelter without weighing down your pack. An A-frame, a half-pyramid, a simple lean-to: most tarp configurations need four to six anchor points, and you've got them. Add a pair of trekking poles and you have a shelter even where there isn't a tree in sight.
They also make a straight swap for the stakes that came with your tent. Those are usually round pins, heavier, and the first thing to bend on stony ground. Our whole set weighs 60 g.
Why a Y shape
A round stake spins in the ground and pulls out under load. The Y-beam has three sides, so it bites into the soil and stays put when the wind picks up. The result: far more holding power at the same weight.
The reflective cord does two jobs: you find your stakes in the dark instead of hunting with a headlamp, and you pull them straight out by the cord instead of digging with your fingers.
